In response to recent riots and protests in Egypt President Mursi has retracted a recent decree made in November which gave him power over the juridical section of his government. But is this action too late in the eyes of opponents? While he has gotten rid of his ability to have last say, he has only done so after fast tracking the new Egyptian constitution through the process of being approved, something which is set to be voted upon on December 15th. Non Islamist politicians and constituents feel that their voices have not been heard in the development of this constitution and, therefore, have not been appeased by Mursi’s move. While these parties might not approve of the move, the market is in favor as Egyptian stocks have risen since the retraction. We will see how this pans out through December 15th and beyond.
