Egypt’s Revolution Losing Ground

The Egyptian Supreme Court has dissolved the Islamist dominated Parliament, a move that brings to light the courts opposition to the revolution that spread to fame via social networks.

“Egypt just witnessed the smoothest military coup,” Hossam Bahgat, director of the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights, wrote in an online commentary.”

He goes on to speak of an exhausted revolutionary body in the face of the oppressive tactics by the nations Supreme Court. Revolution is a tricky thing in an age with advanced weaponry, and information systems, being used against populations. Ruling powers can simply wait out movements by their sheer wealth and power. I feel that the only way a movement such as Egypt’s can succeed is with unilateral support for non government bodies world wide.

The decision means that any newly appointed president will not be challenged by a sitting Parliament. The ruling aimed to breakup the Islamic Brotherhood dominated parliament by non democratic means. It’s a sad day for Democracy.
