A Dog’s Thoughts: An Update On Matt’s Reflection

Matt posted on how thinking of one’s pet is at times thought upon as strange. As a dog person who has never once questioned my connection to my four-legged friend I found this sad. Seeing a dog as unaware and unfeeling has just never been an option. Those who have never felt it just don’t get it. It may just be that we have yet to figure out the tools to truly understand what our furry friends are saying. New studies looking at the connection between pets, specifically dogs and humans show a much stronger bond than most are aware of. I have watched a few documentaries showing how dogs respond to our expressions, gestures and tones more than any other animal on the planet. This new study is attempting to unlock the dog’s thought process through MRIs and scans to better grasp how and why this might be. So the next time someone gives you a funny look because your dog is your friend, remember pet therapy, mental health dogs, guide dogs and all those family pets out there doing extraordinary things. Most of those people are just barking up the wrong tree anyway.
