Coping Through Humor Whether It’s Funny Or Not

We all know the adage “laughter is the best medicine” and even at the times when we didn’t always believe this, we inevitably try to make someone feel better by making them laugh. For decades we have been studying the positive effects of laughter; it boosts the immune system, decreases pain, decreases stress. What’s more, there might be something to suggest that even if you cannot find anything funny, to just fake it. There’s plenty of research showing how the very act of smiling or frowning can put you in the mood you’re demonstrating. So what does this psychologist say we should do if nothing seems funny? Laugh anyway. Laugh and smile and giggle until you mean it.
