Hearing On Texas Ruling To Cut Funding For Medicaid Woman’s Health Program

<p>I know it seems that SJS is Texas bashing, but keep in mind that the government of Texas is making this rather easy. Texas <a href="http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-09-04/lifestyle/sns-rt-us-usa-health-texasbre88400g-20120904_1_abortion-providers-low-income-women-state-officials" title="Texas Woman's Right Ruling">passed a ruling that would cause the state to turn down 90% of the funding for the Medicaid &#160;Woman's Health Program.</a> This judgement is based on on the fact that a large percentage of the funding is given to Planned Parenthood. In essence this is an anti-abortion move. Texas Republicans do not acknowledge that Planned Parenthood offer a variety of non-abortion services, including those that are designed to prevent unwanted pregnancy.&#160;Planned Parenthood has appealed the ruling and there are currently hearings going on in Texas. Planned Parenthood has said that they do not use the funds at clinics where abortions are performed. The hearing will gather public sentiment on the matter.</p><br />
<p>I remember growing up and learning about Woman's rights struggles. Maybe I&#160;should not&#160;be, but I am amazed at the war on those rights. I just can't imagine the&#160;wonderful&#160;woman in my life standing by while those rights are systematically dismantled. What&#160;mystifies&#160;me the most is the supposed&#160;separation&#160;between church and state in America. This is clearly not true in Texas, the argument against abortion are&#160;religious&#160;in nature. There is no way to deny that fact. This issue is not about abortions rights, it's about the&#160;religious&#160;right's attempt to hijack the political system in an attempt to roll back 80 years of civil rights gain for woman. I might even understand an attempt at legislation challenging Roe V Wade if there was some sort of convincing scientific argument on the matter, but that is not the basis for these decisions. Let's be honest, if American did not have a standing army, Texas would have tried to succeed 10 times in the last 50 years. Their policies are so far removed from the modern constitutional law that Texas resembles a country of it's own rather than a state in these united. From now on Texas will be called Little Vatican.&#160;</p>
