Chicago School Rehires English Dept. After Protest From Union And Community

These days it's not often we hear about the triumphs of protest, and union resolve righting an injustice, but in Chicago that is precisely what has happened. In August Chicago's Social Justice High School, fired two teachers, that were the totality of the school's English department, for "economic reasons". The community in question is minority and Hispanic. No shocker there, but they reacted in a novel way; they teamed with the teacher's union, threatened to sue, demonstrated and got the teachers reinstated. SJS is giving this community a 5 star social justice rating, they are an example for us all, especially social workers.

This comes in the wake of a message of hope that the Chicago teachers strike is over. Regardless, America should not be fooled; when education comes into competition with fiscal concerns, American government, and business, is only concerned with our little green friends (Not Martians).
