Chinese Child Trafficking Ring Sells Babies – 1,000 People Arrested

cancer

On February 28th, 2014, it was reported that 382 babies had been rescued from four child trafficking rings, spanning over 27 provinces of China, leading to the arrest of 1,094 people suspect of buying and selling babies.

The sting operation for this investigation had begun last year after Chinese police had uncovered websites, forums and online messaging platforms selling babies under the front of adoption. Traffickers have begun using online methods as the internet makes it more difficult for the authorities to track them down.

Child trafficking has become a major problem in China as the one-child restriction has led to a high demand baby boys. China is continuing to work on this problem by relaxing it’s one-child restriction, and implementing harsher punishments for traffickers and parents who sell their children.
