France says “Oui” to legalize same-sex marriage which should become law this upcoming summer. The bill will not only legalize same-sex marriage, it will allow same-sex couples to adopt children, a practice that is still difficult at best for many. This bill wasn’t without opposition by conservatives and religious citizens, however, the French President François Hollande had pledged to push the bill through if elected.
The United States is still waiting on our turn to join many of the other first world countries in legalizing same-sex marriage. The US hearing’s decisions by the U.S. Supreme court could have federal implications of marriage laws in the states. Where will same-sex couples be saying “I do” next? Only time will tell, but maybe soon, we can drop the “same-sex” altogether and just assume that couples may get married as they so chose.
