Sign The Student Loan Fairness Petition

In the light of Congress’ failure to keep student loan rates from doubling, SJS wanted to remind everyone to support the Student Loan Fairness Act which would solve the current problem by default. The Act currently sits before Education & Workforce Committee. The legislation would do the following as per Representative Bass’ website:

  • The 10-10 standard: an individual would be required to make ten years of payments at 10% of their discretionary income, after which, their remaining federal student loan debt would be forgiven.
  • A Federal interest rates cap at 3.4%.
  • Existing borrowers, whose educational loan debt exceeds their income, can convert their private loan debt into federal Direct Loans, and enroll  into the 10/10 program.
