Social Justice Solutions would like to wish all of our readers, followers, and facebook friends a happy World Social Work Day! According to the International Federation of Social Workers:
“World Social Work Day is the annual opportunity to advocate a social work perspective in political systems that effect the wellbeing of peoples and to celebrate the social work contribution to societies.”
This year’s theme is “Promoting Social and Economic Equalities”, which is based off of the Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development Commitment in Action, developed by the leadership of three international organizations of social work: (International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the International Council on Social Welfare (ICSW)).
As with all of social work month, today is a day to celebrate and advocate for our profession and the influences it has on our society. Part of this is networking, so here are some activities going on with other organizations today around the internet, and some other resources to help you celebrate the day:
- Promote Social Work on Twitter using the hastag #WSWD2013
- Visit your national or local social work organization’s website and see if they have any events taking place. For example the Canadian, Australian, and European Social Work organizations all seem to have events.
- Take part in an online discussion, such as with the Network for Professional Social Workers on LinkedIn where they ask ” “What changes you want to see in our Social Work Profession?” “What is your role as Social Worker in promoting Social and Economic Equalities?”
Above all else, have a happy and meaningful World Social Work Day. While our pay maybe low and our burnout high, we are a valuable profession that fights for equality and justice everyday!
HAPPY WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY!
