A Concert and A Republican To Said Something Nice About The President

There is always some politician being credited or criticized. Thus, Gov. Christie is the fiery leader, and Mayor Bloomberg is the scoundrel that almost ran a marathon down the heart of a devastated city. Both leaders endorsed the President, formally or informally, in the last hours before the election. It only took a hurricane for a Republican to say something nice about the President. And of  course,  global warming is all the rage;  hopefully this out lasts the next season of American Idol. I have not seen any comment from Al Gore, but I imagine him in a fit of rage saying “for God’s sake, I have talked about this forever”. Sometimes it takes a few shots to the face before we realize we are in a fight. Maybe the “global warming/save the planet ideology” can leap across the aisle. Perhaps the conservative and radicals will enter into the dreaded “tree huggers” class of human being.

There is always a telethon. Celebrities do their best to help the common people who have made them rich and famous. I love an impromptu concert, but this time it is making me think that there is something terribly wrong with America. Why do we setup a government if we have to rely on a concert to raise the relief money for a natural disaster? The country is not in good shape, we know that, but where is the outcry against the people who have been given the responsibly to make sure that it is? A sharp 50 year decline in the values of good government, regulation, and accountability, have left America with a poorly balanced checkbook. The nation cannot sustain itself; not with the current budgets and spending decisions. The hierarchy of priorities lends more resources to the defense of foreign soil, leaving only a pittance for the relief in domestic matters. The greatest threat to national security is not Iranian Uranium, but American shortsightedness.

This is a plea, not for the dismantling of the military, but for a  balanced approach to nation building. This includes migration across the aisle before homes vanish and people die. Listen, I will take what I can get, but maybe SJS should make a post a day to remind people of the promises being made for the future.
